Modi government 3.0: Rajnath Singh takes oath as cabinet minister


 NEW DELHI: Senior BJP leader and former defence minister Rajnath Singh took oath as Union minister on Sunday in Modi government 3.0.

Singh won the Lok Sabha elections 2024 from the Lucknow seat in Uttar Pradesh against Samajwadi Party’s Ravidas Mehrotra by a margin of around 1.35 lakh votes.
This is despite the state seeing stellar performance by the INDIA bloc in Uttar Pradesh this year.

This was his third consecutive victory from this seat.
Singh has also rembeenained the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, national president of the BJP, and Union minister in then Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government.
A strategist and a quintessential political leader with grassroots connect, Rajnath Singh is credited with expanding the BJP's organisational network in the Hindi heartland state of Uttar Pradesh in the 1990s and the subsequent decades.
Hailing from the Chandauli district of the politically crucial state, Singh is known as a moderate face and is widely respected by leaders cutting across party lines.
Long seen as a protege of BJP patriarch Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Singh started his political career as a student activist with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and went on to become the BJP national president in 2005.
The senior BJP leader was elected for another term as the party president in January 2013.
